Extreme… Diet Coke and Mentos

The original Diet Coke and Mentos video showed what happens when you put some Mentos in a bottle of diet coke (the bottle sprays diet coke as if it was shaken badly). Google started spreading the Extreme Diet Coke and Mentos video as a “tribute” to the domino effect an online video can have.

More importantly, other than being fun to watch, this video is the first ad sponsored Google video and marks a new era in the online videos market. Watch out for video and audio ads. They’re coming soon.

The Mars Volta – Amputechture

I found The Mars Volta while looking for new music on the Internet. Unfortunately, this band is extremely hard to share with other people, as their Rock music is very alternative. It’s so alternative that I have to listen to their albums a few dozen times until I can get the structure of the songs and enjoy them. Why do I even give them a chance, you ask? Because even in the first time you listen to the album you can tell that it’s the work of extremely talented people, and you get hooked by the parts of it that are easier on the ears.

Here’s a quote from the review of their new album, called Amputechture, by The Rolling Stone magazine. It pretty much sums it up:

The long version: Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez dissolved At the Drive-In, the most promising punk-rock band of the late Nineties, then formed a sprawling progressive-rock ensemble that recorded two albums composed of frenetic multipart suites at a time when doing so amounted to commercial suicide. The short version: The Mars Volta got away with murder.

Scott Adams And His Voice

The author of the famous comic figure Dilbert and author of many books, Scott Adams, lost his voice 18 months ago due to an exotic condition, of which no one has ever been known to recover. Amazingly, Scott Adams did manage to recover, and he describes it in an inspirational post in his blog. Those of you who read his book “The Dilbert Future” (Amazon link), specifically the last chapter, know that Adams has a unique way of looking at the world and would not be surprised by the way he tried (and succeeded) to recover from a seemingly non-recoverable condition. I don’t know why anyone would want to do this…

… but if you have an illegal version of Windows and you really Really REALLY want to install the all new Internet Explorer 7, there are instructions here.

Disclaimer: This procedure messes with system files. I did not try it for two reasons: I use Firefox and I have a legal copy of Windows so I don’t have to do this even if I decide to install IE7 someday (probably out of curiosity and the need to see if my website functions properly).

p.s.

Use Firefox, use Opera. Both are free and better the Internet Explorer, and anyway, I gave you a good reason to use Firefox a long time ago.
