In his most recent article, usability guru Jakob Nielsen declares the death of WYSIWYG, which will be replaced with a new approach – results-oriented UI. A very interesting read.
SMS Kettle
So you’re sitting in the living room dying for a coffee cup, but you just don’t feel like getting up right now. That’s why they created the SMS Kettle (via Gizmodo). You send a text message to the kettle, and it starts boiling the water.
This reminds me of the world’s most useless remote control button: the eject button (in modern CD/DVD players – open/close button). You still need to get up and put the DVD in its box. This is very much like it. I mean – can you be sure that the kettle has water in it when you send the SMS, or will you just have to get up and check?

Guess-the-google
A fun game, Guess-the-google, picks a word, looks for images related to the word on Google and then you have limited time to guess what the word is. Enjoy.
Tom’s Hardware – Pepping Up Windows
Tom’s Hardware‘s article Pepping Up Windows is all about software, which replaces or adds upon built-in Windows functionality. A good read, if you’re trying to avoid using commercial/illegally obtained software.
In the programs table on the first page of the review I found some of the software that I use: FileZilla, 7-Zip, Gimp, Firefox and Thunderbird.
Black Toilet Paper
Do you think black toilet paper is chic and elegant? A company called Renova does.
Slashdot
As Slashdot‘s title declares, it’s a website about “news for nerds, stuff that matters”. It’s one of the busiest websites on the Internet. So busy that if a news item contains a link in Slashdot, then the phenomenon of Slashdot reader clicking the link and killing the target server is called Slashdotting.
But it’s not just the main items that are a good read. Some of the comments by the readers (which get promoted or demoted by other users, and therefore you get to see the good ones) are sometimes very interesting or funny.
How to do nothing
wikiHow is a website where you can find how-tos – instructions, step by step, on how to do stuff. For example, how to avoid registration in a website using BugMeNot or how to get out of debt. But this one really made me laugh: how to do nothing. And they are dead serious on explaining how to do it.
On a side note, if someone asked me how to do nothing, I would have to say: have nothing else better to do.
Domino Pressure
I’ve been playing Domino Pressure every now and then for the past two months. It’s pretty challenging. The goal is to tip the right domino (by clicking it), so that it will cause all the other dominos to fall and eventually squash the tomato. My record is around level 105. Enjoy.
Lobster Vending Machine
Engadget brings us this weird lobster vending machine. I’ll have to see it with my own eyes to believe.
