If you ever wanted to repartition your hard drive, here’s a free, Linux-based tool that can do it for you even for Windows FAT and NTFS partitions – GParted – Gnome Partition Editor. Also, here’s a nice review of this tool. (via Digg)
Warning: repartitioning your hard drive is a delicate process. Be careful and know what you’re doing before you do it.

EasyVMX is a simple but useful website, which lets you create VMWare virtual machine configuration files with an easy-to-use web interface. Later on, you can use it for running Linux on Windows without a CD-ROM, for example.
Krunch is a new web service that lets you compress and decompress (zip and unzip) files online. This is useful if you’re in a place where the correct program for compressing and decompressing your files is not available. (via Download Squad)
Here’s another old idea of mine that gets implemented by someone else: Illumio (NY Times story) is the implementation of my UQAN idea for distributing questions over a network of users to get answers from apparent experts. Here’s Illumio’s website although there’s not much to do there.
I have mixed feelings about this. Although I never thought I’d actually get to implementing UQAN, and I want to see how Illumio turns out, I still feel like I should have done it myself. Oh well.
Here is a short but very useful tutorial on how to reinstall Windows XP while keeping the old copy in a virtual machine using Microsoft’s (now free) Virtual Server (aka Virtual PC Server). (via Digg)
PhotoRec can help you recover lost pictures (or just files) from digital media such as hard drives, flash memory cards (used in digital cameras), CDs and more. Pretty useful for when your flash memory runs out write cycles.

Unlocker solves the problem of locked files in Windows. If you get the message “Cannot delete… It is being used by another person or program” then Unlocker can unlock the file for you and let you delete it just by right-clicking the file and choosing “Unlocker”.
I found this utility to be very useful, but you must always use such utilities with care – in this case only when you are certain that no program is using the file you are about to delete.
