Google Base Launched

Google Base was launched today. And when I say “launched” I, of course, mean that it is still in beta as per Google’s policy of releasing stuff that is not completely finished yet works well enough to use.

So much has already been written about Google Base that I will only say that this is a service, which lets you store items, so you can search in them later on. Basically, it’s a free database to store your public data (information and images). For example, a private person can use it to advertise the car he/she is selling, or a recipe for fruit cake.

The reason I’m posting about it is because I want to see how long it will take for someone to develop a Google Base plugin for WordPress (the software this blog runs on) so you can post and backup in Google Base.

On a side note, check out what a search for “all your base are belong to Google” brings up.

“Their Law” Number 2 In The UK, Prodigy Month Over

“Their Law” by The Prodigy went down to number 2 in the UK after one week as the top selling album, but that was expected as number 1 this week is Robbie Williams’ new album. The fact that Prodigy is still number 2 means that sales are still strong, which is great news.

This is the last day of October, and therefore the end of “Prodigy Month” for this blog. I will still post Prodigy related news and stuff, but the Prodigy theme will be gone by tomorrow.

Open Office 2.0 Is Out

Open Office 2.0 has been released, in case you didn’t know. I installed it and played with it a little, and I must say I’m very impressed. Unfortunately, I have little use for Office-type applications, so I didn’t test it thoroughly.

Open Office 2.0 has many interesting features, like importing Microsoft Office documents and exporting documents as PDF. In general, Microsoft Office users will feel pretty comfortable using Open Office, as the menus and toolbars are organized pretty much the same.

Hebrew support is very good, although Open Office doesn’t come with a Hebrew dictionary out of the box.

And the best thing, of course, is that Open Office is free.

The Prodigy Release “Their Law” + New Website Design

The Prodigy released today “Their Law” – their “best of” CD and singles DVD. Here are some links to Amazon, to make it easier for you to order the goods:

  • One CD version (just the singles)
  • Two CDs limited edition version, which includes 2 new tracks, b-sides and live tracks. This is actually what I’m waiting to listen to most.
  • The DVD

I already ordered my copies of the limited edition CDs and the DVD. How about you?

Also, The Prodigy’s website has been updated with a new design, great artwork and some new cool loops in the background.

Enjoy!

Sub 100$ Laptop

MIT Media Labs has come up with a design for a sub 100$ notebook computer. It is intended for developing countries. It’s a pretty novel idea. As the computer will eventually include Wi-Fi, I wouldn’t mind buying one myself. You can read about it in this BBC News report.
